A beauty portrait
Explore the Lipstick Drawing series, a unique interpretation of Dries Van Noten’s lipstick collection by British illustrator Gill Button.

Commissioned by Dries for the launch of the Beauty Collection, the Lipstick Drawing series – a project of 35 drawings, proposes a singular interpretation and expression of the make-up line. The lipsticks' bold colours and abundant textures emerge in intimately personal portraits, celebrating the dynamic conversations at the heart of Dries Van Noten’s beauty vision.
For this edition, the London-based artist sought to capture the confidence and power of her subjects using the lipsticks from the Dries Van Noten beauty collection.

Dries Van Noten’s first collaboration with the artist dates to 2016, after discovering Gill’s work on Instagram (@buttonfruit). Months of conversation about the possibility of working together led to the production of a series of paintings on the prominent Italian heiress Marchesa Luisa Casati, one of the main inspirations behind the Dries Van Noten Fall / Winter 2016 collection. The thirteen pieces – based on a variety of photographs of the eclectic heiress, travelled subsequently with the collection and served as inspiration to create the invitations for the fashion show. Almost 1200 invitations came to life, creating precious and unique memorabilia for guests.
