SUMINAGASHI TECHNIQUE
MEN SPRING SUMMER 2025
Dries Van Noten pays homage to the Japanese art of Suminagashi in Kyoto, Japan. Suminagashi, meaning “floating ink”, is a traditional marbling art form that creates patterns on water to transfer to fabric.
HAND-DRAWN MOTIF
For the Men Spring Summer 2025 collection this technique was applied to a selection of finished garments, giving each piece its own unique hand-drawn motif.
FLORAL INK PATTERNS
The artworks represent fireworks blooming in the night sky. The floral ink patterns are drawn by hand with a pencil on the water surface. As the ink flows out, unique, floating patterns are created.
ONE-OF-A-KIND GARMENTS
Finished garments are carefully placed on the surface, allowing the ink to transfer onto the garment before gently lifting it off. The garments are laid out flat or hung to air dry.
Photography
The Men Spring Summer 2025 collection offers a range of styles, from coats and blazers to pants and shorts, brought to life in five prints. This technique was documented in Kyoto, Japan, through the lens of videographer Noriaki Okamoto and photographer Ryunosuke Kanaya.
